Surrounded by the alluring dense conifers and colorful perennial flowers, the freshwater lake in the lap of Dhauladhars is one of the best places to trek in the Devbhoomi. Approximately 9 km north from Dharamshala, Kareri village is home to ‘The Gaddi Tribe’. From the picturesque view in the months of spring to the scenic and chilly camping in the months of winter, the trek has a lot more to offer. The lake sources the water from the snow melting after the winters.
You can witness the holy Lord Shiva temple on the hilltop at Kareri Lake as well as the Gaddi Kothis which is used by them while grazing their cattle. The entire trek passes through the pine forests and the Gaddi villages. While on a trek, you will have the privilege to cross the Kareri streams on wooden bridges.
Navigation: The best way to reach Kareri Lake is to travel in a cab or scooty from Dharamshala to Ghera i.e. the starting point of the trek. With a scarcity of vendors, the backpackers should source the food, water and basic amnesties on their own.
